A Pakistani sniper was killed by Indian soldiers in cross-border firing in Jhangar area Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, a day after an army major and three soldiers were killed on the LoC in the state, official sources said.
Quoting army sources, news agency IANS said that Pakistan sniper was killed around 11 am.
Meanwhile, Pakistani forces violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control in several areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts on Sunday, an official source said.
The source said that Pakistani troops started firing from heavy and light weapons from across the border, targeting forward posts and villages in Shahpur.
“Heavy exchange of fire was also reported in Jhanger area in Nowshera, and Balakot area late in the evening,” the official source said.
The latest ceasefire violation comes a day after Pakistani forces allegedly killed an Indian army major and three other soldiers in Keri area along the Line of Control in Rajouri district.
“There is no immediate report of any casualty in the fresh skirmishes,” the source said.
However, the source said, that Indian forces have targeted some snipers of Pakistan army deployed along the LoC to “avenge the killing of soldiers yesterday.”
Meanwhile, the army on Sunday clarified that bodies of its soldiers “killed in firing by Pakistani troops” along the Line of Control on Saturday were not mutilated and the injury marks were due to splinters and gunshots.
“The injuries suffered are due to splinters and gunshots sustained due to firing by the ‘enemy’ on the patrol,” a spokesman of the army said in a statement. (with IANS inputs)
